Vio, born Aşkın Mert Şalcıoğlu, left a powerful mark on Turkish rap despite a life and career cut tragically short. In this original mixed-media portrait, I approach his image through exposed drawing lines, fractured colour and an intentionally unfinished surface. The work focuses on youth, intensity and absence rather than producing a polished promotional likeness. Created in Istanbul, the portrait belongs to my ongoing series of musicians and cultural figures whose voices continue to circulate beyond their own time. Original Vio and Aşkın Mert Şalcıoğlu portrait illustration by İlker Ortaç, an Istanbul-based writer, illustrator and visual artist working with grotesque and underground imagery.
